EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners extended their home winning streak to six games as they defeated the Coastal Bend Thunder 11-3 Saturday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Hunter Owen led the way for the Roadrunners going 2-for-3 with 4 RBI’s including his first professional homerun, a three run shot, over the left field wall in the first inning. Carlos Hereaud followed with a walk and crossed the plate on an RBI single by Eric Gonzalez to end the inning giving Edinburg the 4-0 lead.
Hereaud hit a two run single in the second to score Robert Matlock and Bryon Smith, and a throwing error by the Thunder gave Edinburg the 7-0 edge after Owen came in to score.
Coastal Bend got on the board in the fourth after a throwing error from center field that allowed Manny Mejia to score followed by an RBI single from left fielder Alfred Joseph to end the inning at 7-2.
Edinburg fired back with a double from Angel Reyes, followed by a single from Nick Aranda and a double from Vincent Blue to score both Reyes and Aranda putting the Roadrunners up 9-2. Blue crossed the plate after an RBI single from Owen to end the inning 10-2.
An RBI fielder’s choice by Blue in the sixth ended the scoring for the Roadrunners giving them the 11-2 lead.
The Thunder posted one more run in the eighth after a double by Mejia that sent Leivi Ventura to third and a throwing error by the right fielder allowed Ventura to cross home plate for an 11-3 score.
Aaron Guerra (1-2) picked up his first win of the season after he allowed two runs while scattering four hits and striking out six in six innings of work.
Toro Trevino (3-2) got the loss after he pitched in four and two-third innings and allowed nine runs on 12 hits.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the third game of this four-game series Sunday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Pedro Flores (1-2) will face Miliade Venas (1-2) with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
